St. Luke School-Miracles in Motion Annual Appeal. Each fall the parish, school and community support St. Luek School through donations to the Annual Appeal. Donors help fund the day-to-day operations of the school, provide financial assistance, and increase the Foundation efforts to also provide financial assistance. Many of you received the Annual Appeal letter and a donation envelope. We hope that you and other family members, friends and community members will support the school through this tax deductible donation. Each year the Appeal raises between $25,000 and $35,000, which helps us keep tuition increases moderate and enroll families that would not be able to have a St. Luke education without our financial assistance. To make a donation please use the envelope you received or mark your donation “Miracles in Motion” and place in collection basket on Sunday. Thank you.

November 1: Feast of All Saints. This day was instituted to honor all the saints, known and unknown. It owes its origin in the Western Church to the dedication of the Pantheon in honor of the Blessed Virgin and all the martyrs by Pope Boniface IV, 609, the anniversary of which was celebrated at Rome on the 13 of May. Pope Gregory III (731-741) consecrated a chapel in the Vatican basilica in honor of All Saints and designated November 1st as their feast. Gregory IV extended its observance to the whole Church. It has a vigil and octave is a holy day of obligation. The eve is popularly celebrated as Halloween.

November 2: All Souls Day. This day is the feast in commemoration of the faithful departed. Abbot Odilo of Cluny instituted it in the monasteries of his congregation in 998, other religious orders took up the observance, and it was adopted by various dioceses and gradually by the whole Church. The Office of the Dead must be recited by the clergy on this day and Pope Benedict XV granted to all priests the privilege of saying three Masses of requiem: one for all the souls, one for the intention of the Holy Father and one for the priest’s. If the feast should fall on Sunday it is kept on the 3rd of November.

“All the Churches for all the world”. Theme for this years World Mission Sunday. It invites the local Churches of every continent to a share awareness of the urgent need to relaunch missionary action in the face of the many serious challenges of our time.” To make your donation please use the envelope provided in last week´s bulletin or mark your donation World Mission Sunday and place your donation in the collection.

Food for the Oregon Food Bank. Next weekend Nov. 3/4, we will be taking donations for the Oregon Food Bank. There will be blue barrels in the church to place your donations. We ask that everyone make a donation of non-perishable food items. At this time the Oregon Food Bank is in need of everyone´s help. We thank you for your help.
